“During a visit to a mental hospital before I left Hong Kong, a patient politely asked me how a country that prided itself on being the oldest democracy in the world had come to be handing over his city to another country with a very different system of government, without either consulting the citizens or giving them the prospect of democracy to safeguard their future. Strange, said one of my aides, that the man with the sanest question in Hong Kong is in a mental hospital.”Chris Patten Financial Times

Screwed Up

Screwed Up

HE Screwed Up!

HE Screwed Up!

This 陰謀論 is all over the internet. Thank goodness we still have freedom of speech! What I wonder is why he didn't just blow up the plane when it was in the air. Another 陰謀論 is that they are trying to market those body scanners to the world. Looks like a billion dollar business, eh? Space, Your 蛇竇 co-workers don't seem to have anything nice to say about America, haha....are they mostly Americans?

Exile, conspiracy theories and/or collusion theories are common in politics.

Our 蛇竇 is like united nations, a mix of americans (black and white), chinese americans, indian americans, plus southern asians and HK Chinese(majority), several mainlander chinese, I think there are also two taiwan chinese, and in the past there were southern korean and japanese too.

Speaking of 9/11, I didn't leave the house for 3 days and just cried my eyeballs out every time I saw the towers went down or when Bush gave a speech.

It was then. Now I suppose Americans are much clearer about a lot of things.

Macy

Exile,Unless for business purposes, tourists will find the extraordinary security checking annoying. Did you see any statistics about the dropping of foreign tourists?

After the 12-25 incident the US further implement more checkings certainly affecting the tourism earnings.

The U.S is not a country heavily relies on foreign tourism. Don't get me wrong. We love tourists from overseas but I think our main focus is on domestic travel and local business spending. In the past I seldom read/heard any serious discussion about losing revenue from foreign tourism in the media. Our economy is diverse enough that we don't have to rely on one aspect of a particular industry. Thank goodness.

National security always comes first. If you ask Americans, I think majority of them would vote for tighter airport security regardless of all the conspiracy theories out there. Myself included. Americans are funny. We complain a lot about our government but at the end of the day, we still put a lot of faith in the system. This is something I don't quite understand myself :-)

Exile, That's simple US prohibits all foreign travellers into the country. WHY even president Bush did not ask the house and the snate to pass the BILL the ACT the legistlation? and signed by HIM right after 911?

exile said...

Come on, I said international tourism carries less weight than domestic tourism but doesn't mean we don't need tourists from abroad. You are being sarcastic, right?

the inner space said...

Exile, I am so sorry if that gives you negative feeling.

The cost for the security checkings and then the additional costs for the new implementation. All charging back on the Air-Tickets or Airport Tax i.e. passing back onto the travellers

After weighing the cost and benefit we believe it is a reasonable suggestion for Obama's government pushing that idea to the american public ~ no foreign travellers.

Our ”蛇竇“has such suggestion,I guess at least some americans or societies also have similar suggestion(s),for the sake of american security.

Obviously you do not appear supporting this idea.

exile said...

well, I guess if people don't like the current security procedure, they simple won't visit the U.S. It doesn't make any difference whether Pres. Obama cuts off international travel or not. So your co-workers think America should turn into North Korea? Cut ourselves off from the rest of the world. Sounds passive aggressive to me. I heard some Canadians decide to drive over instead.

I can say the same about visiting China. Tourist visa to China costs about US$100, lots of Americans still visit China. It's personal decision.

Exile, Where there are opportunities to earn money business travellers will come.
