Pet Import Singapore
Pet import to Singapore is relatively easy but costly and requires a quarantine of 4 weeks. Dogs and cats from Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Ireland are exempt from quarantine.
From September 2004, all imported dogs and cats must be identified with an ISO-compatible microchip. Dogs/cats without or with unreadable microchips may be deported or detained for any necessary action. For Documents and vaccinations required see link.
What you need to know before importing your pet
The hot climate and the law requiring dogs be leashed in public places restrict freedom of action considerably. Category A & B dogs must also be muzzled while in public. While approved breeds of dogs are permitted in HDB flats, cats cannot be kept there.
Prior before your pet import to Singapore you need written permission of your landlord to keep a pet at your home in Singapore. Each dog needs a license that is renewed yearly. The license will be revoked if the dog causes a nuisance (excessive barking, defecating in public, biting etc.)
Note: Only certain breeds of dogs are allowed in apartments and permission depends also on the landlord.
Cats are generally not permitted in HDB flats.
Pet's Viewpoint on Living in Singapore
Singapore is not so bad, once I survived 30 dreadful days of quarantine.
Apparently I need a visa like the humans. I missed my family so much and got always very excited when they came for a visit. I never understood why they did not take me with them.
It is very hard to get used to the climate. I am constantly thirsty and miss running around in the park, as my owner needs to keep me on a leash.
My family cannot take me along for shopping or to restaurants and I have to stay with the maid. Boring...
The walks with the maid in the morning and evening are very short and end at the corner where I meet other pets with their maids. Lots of gossip, but no exercise and no chance to have a good bark!
You should ask your family to get a house with a garden, so at least I can mark my territory. Make sure your owner gets to know the places we doggies recommend.

彭定康 金融時報 “During a visit to a mental hospital before I left Hong Kong, a patient politely asked me how a country that prided itself on being the oldest democracy in the world had come to be handing over his city to another country with a very different system of government, without either consulting the citizens or giving them the prospect of democracy to safeguard their future. Strange, said one of my aides, that the man with the sanest question in Hong Kong is in a mental hospital.”Chris Patten Financial Times
