“During a visit to a mental hospital before I left Hong Kong, a patient politely asked me how a country that prided itself on being the oldest democracy in the world had come to be handing over his city to another country with a very different system of government, without either consulting the citizens or giving them the prospect of democracy to safeguard their future. Strange, said one of my aides, that the man with the sanest question in Hong Kong is in a mental hospital.”Chris Patten Financial Times

CNNJohn McCain’s campaign said Tuesday Barack Obama’s reference to "lipstick on a pig" to describe the Republican’s vow to bring change to Washington was offensive language, and a slap at VP nominee Sarah Palin – despite the fact that the Arizona senator himself used the phrase last year to describe a policy proposal of Hillary Clinton’s.

Obama made the remarks at a Virginia campaign stop late Tuesday afternoon. "John McCain says he’s about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, 'Watch out George Bush – except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics – we’re really gonna shake things up in Washington,'" Obama said.

"That’s not change. That’s just calling something the same thing something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. You know you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink after eight years. We’ve had enough of the same old thing."

Within minutes, the McCain campaign announced a conference call focused on the remark, which they said was a deliberate reference to Sarah Palin’s line: "You know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick."

都相差無幾,Pig 同樣是個『貶辭』 putting down people and derogatory!

"eat like a pig" ~ to eat a lot, or to eat noisily and unpleasantly.
"a guinea pig " ~ if someone is used as a guinea pig, new ideas or products are tested on them.
"in a pig's eye" ~ something that you say which means you think there is no chance that something is true or that something will happen.
"make a pig of yourself" ~ eat too much.
"a pig in a poke " ~ something that you buy or accept without first seeing it or knowing what it is like, with the result that it might not be what you want.
"pig's arse!" ~ something that you say when you do not believe what someone has just told you.
"squeal like a stuck pig" ~ to make a long, high sound, usually because you are hurt.

and last but not least
"lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig" ~ no change, no improvement.

A maverick is a person who shows independence of thought or action; a non-conformist or rebel.

ABC released excerpts of Palin's interview with "World News Tonight" anchor Charlie Gibson on Thursday. The full interview is scheduled to air Friday night on the network's "20/20" program.

Palin said she supported NATO membership for Ukraine and Georgia -- a move Russia strongly opposes.

She also said the United States must be "vigilant" about larger powers invading small democracies.

"I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help," she said.

CNN reported

sighs...

Imak

Obama
Al Qaeda 同 bin Laden,
