“During a visit to a mental hospital before I left Hong Kong, a patient politely asked me how a country that prided itself on being the oldest democracy in the world had come to be handing over his city to another country with a very different system of government, without either consulting the citizens or giving them the prospect of democracy to safeguard their future. Strange, said one of my aides, that the man with the sanest question in Hong Kong is in a mental hospital.”Chris Patten Financial Times

歌唱界創作很多反戰的樂曲,其中一首 ”Where have all the flowers Gone?"

而我認識這首歌是已經很多年之後,我買到一隻『Brothers Four』的 CD, 其中有一首歌就是『Where have all the Flowers gone? Pete Seeger .

Where have all the flowers gone? music lyrics by Pete Seeger

Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the flowers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the flowers gone?
Girls have picked them every one

When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young girls gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young girls gone?
Taken husbands every one

When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the young men gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the young men gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the young men gone?
Gone for soldiers every one

When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards every one

When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time passing
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Covered with flowers every one

When will we ever learn?
When will we ever learn?

Music lyrics and sang by Pete Seeger

Oh! When will they ever Learn?

Oh! When will they ever Learn?

Hi Space:

On July 9, 2008, I attended in Ottawa a performance by 89 yrs old Pete Seeger and his grandson Tao. Of course, they and the audience had a sing-along of WHATFG for old time's sake.

Joan Baez, Peter Paul and Mary, as well as Pete Seeger are all on my list of favourite singers.

And, thank you for this nice walk down memory lane.
