“During a visit to a mental hospital before I left Hong Kong, a patient politely asked me how a country that prided itself on being the oldest democracy in the world had come to be handing over his city to another country with a very different system of government, without either consulting the citizens or giving them the prospect of democracy to safeguard their future. Strange, said one of my aides, that the man with the sanest question in Hong Kong is in a mental hospital.”Chris Patten Financial Times

City Slickers ONE (1991)

City Slickers ONE (1991)

在 my profile Favorite Movies 有 Casablanca An Affair to Remember ﹐Roman Holiday﹐The Sound of MusicMy Fair LadyGroundhog DayCity Slickers - I Other People's Money 。(those in blue already being put on my blog, if you wish to read them just simply make your click) 。

City Slickers --1

Directed by:
Ron Underwood

Starring:

Billy Crystal as Mitch Robbins

Daniel Stern as Phil Berquist

Bruno Kirby as Ed Furillo

Jack Palance as Curly Washburn

Three men in their 30s or 40s, each going through his own mid-life crisis, depressed about their job and family. At a party,In a meeting one of the three took out a brochure for a two-week Southwestern cattle drive vacation so they signed up for a break from city life.

The story goes:
Phil is the manager of a grocery store owned by his father-in-law. One of the store's checkout girls reveals her affair with Phil, his wife threatens to divorce him.

Ed newly married to a woman with super model looks and faces the pressure of being a father.

Mitch turns 40 and feels especially depressed about his job and family.

When the three men arrive at the scene of the cattle drive, they soon meet their gruff, intimidating trail boss, Curly. Curly and Mitch eventually bond when they go off to round up strays. Mitch even assists in giving birth to a calf he names "Norman".

Mitch eventually comes to respect Curly, whom he finds to be deeply fascinating and wise. Mitch shares the last thing Curly taught him. It was a profound existentialist lesson what really matters in life is for each of us to find our passion, our "One Thing".

But soon after they return to camp, Curly dies unexpectedly. The cook breaks his leg; the trail boss' thug assistants become drunk and abandon the tour. It is up to the "city slickers" to finish the drive. Mitch finds his "One Thing" as he nearly drowns in a rain-swollen river. He is saved, returns to his family, and embarks on a more meaningful, purposeful life. Mitch, Ed and Phil lead the herd back successfully to the Colorado ranch.

There, The trio's triumphant return is spoiled when the ranch owner announces he is going to sell the herd for a handsome profit for slaughter. Mitch spares Norman from slaughter by purchasing him and bringing the calf home long enough to be placed in a petting zoo.

SO what is the ONE THING in your life, this changes from time to time right ?

AT different time of our life span we hold on the one thing, study, relationship, career, family.

Remarks:
Jack PalanceOscar Best Supporting Actor in 1992 for his performance as cowboy Curly Washburn in City Slickers. Stepping onstage to accept the award, the intimidatingly fit 6' 4" (1.93 m) actor looked down at 5' 7" (1.70 m) Oscar host Billy Crystal (who was also his co-star in the movie), and joked - mimicking one of his lines from the film - "Billy Crystal... I crap bigger than him." He then dropped to the floor and demonstrated his ability, at age 73, to perform one-handed push-ups. Jack died on 10 November 2006, at the age of 87.

Yes, it's important to ensure we know the One Thing of ourselves. That tells where we are and where we are heading to.

THAT ONE THING !!!

I wrote the paragraph with passion and tears,

live there or work there ???

QuarryBay/Taikoo美食甚多, 喜歡飲茶?
