Promoting News vs Reporting News
當有群眾活動，例如：新聞發報會 press release、請願 protest、遊行 parade、示威 demonstration，當事人總希望透過新聞報導，把他個人或集體的理念、訴求、意見，經過傳媒發佈開出， radiate out 輻射出去，到更廣泛的範圍，令更多人知道，他們究竟攪甚麼、要求甚麼。
當參與者在現場，發覺到傳媒的記者採訪、攝影師攝錄攝影、收音師收音收錄，當場情況之時，他們會大聲些、他們會興奮些、他們會落力些，去喊他們的口號、去發表他們的意見、去表達他們的訴求。記者的責任就是不偏不倚的報導 impartial reporting ，但若新聞媒體在報導之時，尤其是有畫像的電視新聞，作出即場報導直播錄播之時，由當場的記者、攝影師、新聞編導，鼓勵當場的參與者，作出較激烈的舉動，令到畫面更為吸引觀眾，那麼這是“推廣”新聞，還是“報導”新聞呢？
美國的兩大媒體，CNN 和 FOX 就因此展開公開的罵戰，由來是 FOX 的一篇廣告。
《Examiner.com》The issue concerns a full-page ad Fox News ran in the Washington Post. In the ad Fox News asserts that the other major news networks all "missed" coverage of the 9/12 Tea Party protests while Fox News provided the fair coverage.
聞說 FOX 的廣告指 CNN 新聞對九月十二日在美國首都華盛頓的示威 Tea Party，反對奧巴馬的 Health Care 鮮有報導。 上網在“你喉”找到九月十八日 CNN 方面的反擊。
臨尾主播 Rick Sanchez 更指出 FOX 新聞是“推廣”整個事件，而非“報導”整個事件。暗示 FOX 的新聞有偏頗，未能堅持中立 impartial，不偏不倚地去報導。
《Examiner.com》Rick Sanchez devoted a long segment of his show to proving CNN did in fact extensively cover the 9/12 protests. At the end of his segment Sanchez went on the criticize how Fox News "promoted" the event rather than "covering" the event.
今天在“你喉”增加了一段 FOX News Producer （穿綠色衫的女士），在九月十二日華盛頓的 Tea Party，指揮記者背後的群眾，大聲叫喊，增加畫面的震堪。CNN 的主播 Rick Sanchez 當然沒有放過 FOX，在他的主播時段把影片重播，並加以嚴厲批評，加以鞭撻。
《Newsbusters.org 》 RICK SANCHEZ: When I said Friday that we covered the Tea Party rally in Washington, it was only because Fox News had taken out a full-page ad in The Washington Post telling millions of people that we didn’t cover the rally- and that was a lie, and lies should be exposed. And here’s something else that should be exposed. Real news organizations- real news organizations- are not supposed to stage events, nor should they promote news events, nor should they hype news events. Otherwise, they lose their ability to be impartial. They’re no longer even remotely objective if they do that, nor are they being ‘fair and balanced.’ Case in point again: Fox News, and that’s where we begin ’Fotos del Dia.’
RICK SANCHEZ: And more- Fox News says the producer in question will be disciplined. As for my request that they apologize for lying about CNN not covering the story, still no apology, though a Fox executive did say I was a ‘sucker.’ Not quite sure exactly what that means, but I’m still waiting for that apology.
《Huffingtonpost.com》 A Fox News Channel producer has been caught in a behind-the-scenes video rallying the crowd during last weekend's 9/12 protest in Washington.
The Huffington Post has confirmed that the woman in the below video — seen raising her arms to rally the crowd behind Griff Jenkins, who was reporting from the scene for Fox News — is Fox News producer Heidi Noonan.
"The employee is a young, relatively inexperienced associate producer who realizes she made a mistake and has been disciplined," Bryan Boughton, Fox News Channel Washington Bureau Chief told the Huffington Post.
The video shows the producer on her cell phone as she urges the crowd behind Jenkins to cheer louder.
《Examiner.com》Now CNN is picking up on the "cover but don't promote" theme. Campbell Brown made the same charge against Fox News in her airtime. Finally CNN is now running their own ad claiming that Fox News engages in "distorting not reporting." We now can all eagerly anticipate the next Fox News reaction.

後記：
近日蛇竇每天上下午的吹水會，除了談及龔如心遺囑案件，雙方律師的結案陳詞，也把華盛頓和烏魯木齊兩個事件中，新聞從業員的取態，比較一番，討論幾番。
早些時無線電視記者和攝影師，加埋 Now的攝影師，因為報導新疆烏魯木齊動亂，而被市公安扣留，領導全港沸騰起來，雖然最終獲得釋放，卻因被新疆新聞辦，指控在拍攝報導時指手畫腳，有煽動嫌疑，令到全港不分左、中、右，都敵氣同仇，聲討新疆烏魯木齊新聞辦“說謊”。
暫時烏港雙方企硬，港方嘈完一輪後，烏魯木齊方面沒有再舉證，而特首辦、中聯辦，都說已經照實反映上北京。而北京為了國慶彩排，已經事忙，兼且胡主席要去美國開會，沒有閑暇抓緊事件，相信到國慶之後，就已經淡化，不了了之。

ReplyDelete一向對美國美資傳媒冇乜好感，但又冇辦法一定會見到，今次是懷著睇戲心情，兩虎雙闘有冇一傷呢？還是兩方增加收視率，達致雙贏呢？
There are very few "neutral" reporting these days. There is a term for the biased medium/media reporting: 喉舌報 mouth piece。
ReplyDeleteHari 兄：掌握媒體成為宣傳工具納粹黨的戈培爾發揮得最盡不過近世科技發達報章電視互聯網又有另一番景象。仍然相信報道要保持中立社論就可以各有立場。不過新聞報導能做到不偏不倚受到左右機符沒有可能那就唯有透過自我多讀多過濾兼且利用互雙引證去發掘真相。至於記者為新聞而製做新聞就需要業內專業的自我監督。
